This right comes from the 14th Amendment. It passed in 1868 after the Civil War. The amendment protects people born here. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the main opinion. He said the law is clear. It gives citizenship to all who are born here. This includes children of non-citizens. The Court said this promise is strong.
