Climate change is disrupting this delicate balance. Springs are starting earlier each year due to rising global temperatures. This shift creates a serious problem for migrating birds. Many birds are arriving at their breeding grounds too late. They are falling behind the local pace of spring. Consequently, they miss the peak window of food availability. Not all birds face this problem with the same intensity. About seventy percent of the bird species found in the United States are migratory.
