Chinese Premier Li Qiang delivered a special address at the opening plenary of the 17th Annual Meeting of the New Champions. This event is widely known as the Summer Davos. It took place in Dalian, a coastal city in northeastern China, on Wednesday. The forum ran from June 23 to June 25. It brought together more than 1,700 participants from over 90 countries and regions. These leaders and business experts gathered to discuss China’s economic path. They also focused on how technological advances can create real economic benefits.
Li Qiang stated that the Chinese economy has shown stability, innovation, vitality, and integration with the rest of the world. He made these comments at the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan period, which covers the years 2026 to 2030. He noted that the economy has maintained strong resilience and positive momentum. In a world that is becoming increasingly uncertain, China serves as an important safe harbor for global stability.
The premier emphasized that China remains committed to expanding its openness to the world. This commitment helps China integrate more deeply into the global economy. To support this goal, China has granted zero-tariff treatment to 63 countries. This policy reduces the cost of goods for these nations. Additionally, China’s imports have ranked second globally for 17 consecutive years. This shows the large demand for foreign products within China.
Data from the first five months of 2026 highlights this trend. Imports rose by 20.5 percent compared to the same period last year. This growth significantly outpaced the rate of export growth. It indicates that Chinese consumers and businesses are buying more from abroad. This trend supports global trade and provides opportunities for international suppliers.
