US launches strikes on Iran after tankers hit in Strait of Hormuz

The United States has carried out a series of powerful military strikes against Iran. This action comes in direct response to attacks on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The US government stated that these strikes were necessary to punish Iran for targeting ships carrying innocent people. This waterway is a critical international route for global trade.
US Central Command, known as Centcom, announced the start of the assault on Tuesday. The military command explained that the goal was to impose heavy costs on Iran. The statement emphasized that attacking commercial shipping in an international waterway is unacceptable. The US argued that Iran’s actions were unwarranted and dangerous. They also claimed these attacks violated a recent ceasefire agreement between the two nations.
Iran responded with strong condemnation. An Iranian deputy foreign minister called the US attacks a clear violation of a memorandum signed between the two countries last month. This memorandum was intended to ease tensions. The Iranian official warned that Tehran would take "decisive measures" in response. Iranian state media reported that the US strikes hit several locations, including Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas, and Sirik. Reports indicated that people were injured by shrapnel from the explosions. However, no deaths have been reported so far.
