The Lost Year follows Matthew, a 13-year-old stuck inside during the COVID-19 pandemic, as he discovers his great-grandmother's hidden past. While helping his 100-year-old great-grandmother, Nadiya, organize her belongings, he uncovers her secret history as a survivor of the Holodomor—the devastating famine in Soviet Ukraine in the 1930s.
